Extraordinary advancements have been made in our understanding of the complex pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis. The Type 2 cytokine IL-13 has been identified as having a central role in inflammation, itch, barrier dysfunction, and dysbiosis in atopic dermatitis patients. Understanding the pathogenesis can help inform treatment decisions for adult moderate to severe atopic dermatitis patients.
